September 18: The Untold Story

Filed under: Uncategorized — gav @ 8:03 pm

It started out just like any other day… Well, kinda.

I figured when the hot water wasn’t working last night that the pilot light was out, and no, the dripping noise outside did not alert me to the more serious problem afoot. So out I go to fire it up this morning and it’s pissing water everywhere. My neighbor Reg, a plumber (how’s that!) took one look at it and said “Yeah, it’s fucked.” I love a quick diagnosis.

Then the “tztztztztztz” noise started again. I honestly thought it was coming from the amplifier, which is why I checked all the speaker cables before I went to bed last night (I was gonna have a warm shower, but there you go…) So I walk outside to grab the paper and the “tztztztztztz” noise almost deafens me. I open the box with all the fuzes and stuff I don’t understand in it and I stare at it blankly. I rang my friend Rob, who is much more capable at just about everything than I am, and he sends his electrician mate Shane out to my place. It turns out the fuzes were loose and badly wired.

When the hot water system went, I thought it was just a terrible accident.

When the “tztztztz” noise started, then I knew I was under attack.

9/18 ended in much finer fashion than it started. Thanks Reg, thanks Rob, & thanks Derek & Shane.

There was a third thing today too, but I’m not gonna write about it here. I would like to think that the thing all three events share in common is that they all felt like complete disasters for the first five minutes and then they turned out to be completely cool. Hope so.

Tacker

Filed under: Uncategorized — gav @ 11:57 pm

I have just set up a new wireless network and decided to call it Tacker. I called the first one Pat, after Pat (the dog) so I decided that I should continue with that theme, and Tacker was a Labrador we had when I was a kid. We also had a three legged mutt called Rellim (Miller backwards) so if I have to set up another one I guess I’ll go with that. Beyond that, we had a cat called Rice Bubbles, a cockatoo called Fingers, and for a short period we had a lamb called SD (Sunday Roast) and I almost forgot our blue heeler called Matilda. My friend Dixie has a daughter called Matilda, and I have not yet told her about our cattle dog. Probably never will.

Howard Stern spoke to Angus Young and Brian Johnson from AC/DC on his Sirius satellite radio show. Brilliant. Stern is the best interviewer ever. Do a search on stern 09 09 08 in mininova if the legalities of it all don’t bother you. (Shit man, I would SO buy Sirius if I could! I live in the world’s most isolated city, let me soak something in from the rest of the planet, please!) Uncensored radio like this is one of the ten great miracles of the naughties. For the record…

10.) Uncensored Howard Stern

9.)  Hybrid Cars

8.) Entourage and Arrested Development (And A Few Reality Shows)

7.) Youtube

6.) Led Zeppelin and The Police Reform (While Michael Jackson Continues To Malform)

5.) Taking Photos On The Surface Of Mars

4.) The Death Of The 56K Modem

3.) Barack Obama

2.) High Definition Television

1.) iTunes

And in summary, I downloaded the MTV Video Music Awards – shithouse show – what a waste of bandwidth. Mind you, Russell Brand is a funny bugger and did not do such a bad a job. I am with him on his running gag which he copped so much flack for. He’s right you know: Those Jonas brothers look like they need a good fisting.
